The Economic Development Initiative

The Economic Development Initiative (EDI) is an ongoing initiative with a budget of $30.5 million over five years, starting in 2023 to 2028, renewed under the Action Plan for Official Languages 2023–2028: Protection-Promotion-Collaboration. It is delivered by Industry, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) in collaboration with the Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), including CanNor.

The initiative facilitates sustainable growth in official language minority communities (OLMCs) by fostering the development of new expertise through projects that encourage economic diversification, business development, innovation, and partnerships. These projects increase support for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in OLMCs.

CanNor delivers $80,000 annually through the EDI to support projects that help develop capacity, expertise and partnerships.
